The biggest private modern art galleries are getting shut down in Russia. The Muscovite owners of the Guelman Gallery, the Aidan Gallery and the XL gallery have announced that they could not continue the gallery business anymore.

In the midst of this concerning sentiment as to the future of the modern arts, the State Tretyakov Gallery - the largest Russian art museum in Moscow - will put on display for the period from 19 May to 2 June the work piece of the art group CF that has increased in minimum guaranteed auction price by more than $200,000 within the year upon its creation.

In the modern art world, collectors confuse the artistic value of a piece with its price for which it can be auctioned off. Denis Saunin and Gheorg Mamin, the members of the CF Art Group, set before themselves a goal a year ago of creating the Absolute Masterpiece. This had to be a work of art that would always have an unfailingly high auction price even without the genius of its creators taken into account. Their work, called the Golden Masterpiece, is a designer gold bullion weighing 12 kg. At any moment, the owner of this creation can put it up for bidding with the guaranteed price estimate calculated on the basis of the international gold price rates. Right now, the minimum guaranteed auction price of the Masterpiece exceeds $700,000. During the exhibition at the Tretyakov Gallery, the authors will be calculating daily the guaranteed auction price of the Masterpiece; they will also spend that time contemplating on this masterpieces' true artistic value.

The tragic history of creating this work and its first exposition were described in the essay 'The Birth of One Masterpiece. The Punchfest at the Manege' (Part 1. The Birth http://cfart.net/e-z2.php Part 2. The Punchfest http://www.cfart.net/e-z22.php )
