Social Design - Public Action Symposium

The international symposium, hosted by the University of Applied Arts Vienna, addresses social design as an integral element of communal and transcultural interaction within the urban environment. It deals with the social and political as well as ecological and economic challenges we are facing today. Against this background, social design is questioned as a means to facilitate the vital formation and transformation of the urban network beyond traditional urbanism, architectural and political conventions.

The symposium was initiated by the Master Degree program "Social Design. Arts as Urban Innovation", headed by Anton Falkeis . It aims at pinpointing pro-active approaches that draw their conceptual strength from the envisioning of the combination of multidisciplinary design strategies on an international level. Artistic research and the theoretic sciences are connected with hands-on practice of spatial and cultural coproduction. The symposium is curated and moderated by Lukas Feireiss.

United in an overall attentiveness towards the observation of complex contexts relating to action in space and a thorough understanding of the transformational power of architecture,     brings together internationally-renowned speakers from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds offering an inspiring bandwidth of perspectives on social deisgn in contemporary political discourse and creative processes.
