World Culture Forum 2016 to Bring Culture and Development Into Harmony

Themed "Culture for an Inclusive Sustainable Planet", WCF 2016, organized and initiated by Indonesia through Ministry of Education and Culture, is an avenue to discuss strategic issues and recommend policies for sustainable development, particularly with respect to peace, prosperity, preservation, and development of the high quality of life towards the global civilization.

Themed "Culture for an Inclusive Sustainable Planet", WCF 2016, organized and initiated by Indonesia through Ministry of Education and Culture, is an avenue to discuss strategic issues and recommend policies for sustainable development, particularly with respect to peace, prosperity, preservation, and development of the high quality of life towards the global civilization.

Over 1,500 participants from around the world have flocked up to Bali to experience and learn how culture can shape the world and make it a better place to live in. In addition, WCF 2016 also features a number of side events dedicated to the youth, such as International Youth Forum (IYF) and International Folk Dance Festival (IFDF) as well as symposiums series, Ministerial Forum, and Cultural Tour.

A number of keynote speakers are expected to attend the Forum, such as Ban Ki Moon (UN Secretary General), Irina Bokova (Secretary General of UNESCO), Megawati Sukarnoputri (Indonesian 5th President), King Abdullah II (King of Jordan ), and Justin Trudeau (Prime Minister of Canada ). Meanwhile, the symposium series will present well-known names such as Ridwan Kamil (Mayor of Bandung), Aleta Baun (Village Head Mollo of East Nusa Tenggara), Celio Turino (Culture Points, Brazil ), Jill Cousins (CEO of Europana), Shinsuke Ota (Japan Water Agency), Wayan Windia (Expert Subak), and Desi Anwar (CNN Indonesia).

Director General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture, Republic of Indonesia , Hilmar Farid , explained the purpose of the implementation of the framework of WCF 2016. "WCF 2016 is a part of master plan as stated in Bali Promise. This forum is designed to carry forward the implementation of the grand idea emerged in WCF 2013," said Farid. Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia , Muhadjir Effendy, added, "Culture is an important component. This forum provides an opportunity on how culture helps sustainable development. We have to be able to conduct the cultural partnership in all aspects of our lives."
