Kunsthal Rotterdam Starts Innovative Public Project 'MaakMee'

'MaakMee', best translated as 'Co-Create', is the Dutch interactive exhibition project of Kunsthal Rotterdam in collaboration with the BankGiro Lottery (Dutch cultural lottery). Kunsthal visitors are given the unique opportunity to participate online in the realisation of an exhibition in the Kunsthal through the specially designed website http://www.kunsthalmaakmee.nl. First, the MaakMee community votes for one out of three proposed exhibitions. Second, they participate in the choices made for the development of the winning exhibition. Finally, they visit the Kunsthal to see their participatory work realised. The Dutch tv-personality John Buijsman is ambassador for the project, and encourages the public to participate. MaakMee is a follow-up to Museum Minutes and Hipstamatic, earlier interactive projects in which the Kunsthal experimented with innovative museum presentations and public participation. MaakMee 2013 is a kick-off project, therefore, this edition and the website http://www.KunsthalMaakMee.nl are in Dutch only.

MaakMee in three steps

        . Three different exhibitions compete in a race for the public's vote; only one can be the winner. The Kunsthal has teamed up with three international renowned museums who have presented the following exhibitions;

- , in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, London .

- in collaboration with Fashion Museum Hasselt.

- , in collaboration with Le Musée en Herbe, Paris / Fondation Vasarely, Aix-en-Provence .

          In this most interactive step of all, the MaakMee community is asked to give online input for the realisation of the exhibition. Through fourteen questions they jointly decide on all aspects ranging from title to decoration, from exhibition texts to poster.

        In the final step, the MaakMee participants are invited to see how their collaborative work has become reality in the Kunsthal.

Website and campaign

Every participant's data are stored in a personal MaakMee portfolio on http://www.KunsthalMaakMee.nl, and feedback from discussions, critical remarks, brilliant ideas or results are passed on to them via e-mails. In the meantime, behind the scenes at the Kunsthal, the largest publically participated exhibition project is gradually unfolding.

'MaakMee' has been made possible thanks to all the participants of the BankGiro Lottery, and is a collaboration between the Kunsthal and creative agencies CCCP, IN10 and Das Buro.
