2018 also marks 100 years of Polish independence. In celebration of the Centennial, the Wrocław Opera has prepared a number of events under the shared title of The Polish Year at the Wrocław Opera. Following the premiere of Poland's first opera, Krakowiacy i Górale, which dates back to the 18th century, a concert for the 150th Anniversary of the birth of the father of Polish freedom, First Marshal Józef Piłsudski, and the Christmas Singing Families Tournament (Turniej Śpiewających Rodzin), the theatre will be staging performances with the music of Polish composers from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Of those, Krzysztof Penderecki will take centre stage, as 2018 marks his 85th birthday. Visit the Wrocław Opera in 2018.
