Gunther Von Hagens Ventures From Artistic Anatomy to Anatomical Art In New Exhibit

In Cuts, the inconspicuous, the mundane, and the literal are sliced in different planes, to be viewed in a new way--sharpening the sense of the extraordinary in the ordinary.  A foot in a towering stiletto heel, cut along the longitudinal plane, is a marvel of intention, ambition, suffering, and sacrifice. All for beauty, it declares. A piggy bank cut from snout to tail is a repository of hope and deferred dreams. "Even the depths of things holds only surfaces," says von Hagens.

Cuts: Forays in Anatomical Art makes the familiar foreign and the foreign familiar.

What lies beneath is neither terrestrial nor magical, but for the curiosity seeker and naturalist, it offers a lens through which to see our world and its objectified and animating elements in another dimension.

The special feature will be unveiled to the public on July 31, 2014 in BODY WORLDS & The Cycle of Life on view at Olympic Park through October 5, 14.
