The competition called on small businesses and entrepreneurs to come forward with innovative solutions that could help some of London's highest profile regeneration projects meet the demands of London's growing population. These redevelopment areas are members of the Smart London Districts Network, created to support the Mayor of London's vision for 'smart city' innovation and to help small businesses provide targeted solutions to London's growth challenges.

Flybits applied its context-as-a-service solution to render a smart city app for district residents, visitors, and managers to receive relevant information, and actionable insights for district management. Features of the mobile solution included wayfinding and navigation, public transportation tracking and alerts, and information and services pertinent to district venues and events.

The app works towards the competition's goal to help make London's growth economically, environmentally and socially sustainable by identifying key challenges that can be addressed with the help of mobile technology. The app can also act as a template for developers to create future smart city apps, allowing specific features to be re-purposed across different geographies and scenarios.

"It is an honor to be recognized alongside other innovative companies working to make the cities of the future smarter and more efficient," said Flybits CEO Jerry Rudisin. "This is another great use case for Flybits technology and will undoubtedly be an area we continue to target moving forward. Allowing companies, governments and organizations to easily inject apps with context-awareness could help identify and solve problems in cities across the globe."
