6th Triennial of Photography: The International Festival of Photography in Hamburg

"Automated cameras; miniature devices the size of a grain of salt; cameras that record scents… the new aesthetic opportunities of cameras have changed our image of the world. And yet a picture remains a picture. Since the camera is not a robot with artificial intelligence, the person behind the machine continues to be crucial." This is how Krzysztof Candrowicz, curator of the Triennial of Photography, describes the future of the picture and the future of photography. These are the core topics of this year's Triennial, taking place in June 2015 for the sixth time. Hamburg's eight leading museums and exhibition institutions will be participating in this year's programme of events, and visitors will be able to experience more than 70 exhibitions at 59 venues - ranging from galleries, publishing houses and underground stations to containers and historic warehouses in the Oberhafen quarter, Hamburg's new creative hub. In June 2015, Hamburg will thus be the European centre of photography and once again confirm its reputation as a cultural capital in Northern Europe.

A dedicated container village in front of the Deichtorhallen, inspired by the New York photo festival Photoville, will form the centrepiece of the Triennial and feature exhibitions from ten European photo festivals and nine photography schools. Being a partner of the Triennial of Photography, Photoville itself will display six exhibitions on contemporary photography from the United States. The festival centre will serve as a meeting place, a central point of information, and as the venue for numerous events. At night, photo projections covering various topics will also be held here.
