Analog Art meets Nft Art
The exhibition is curated by Alcinda Saphira and will also include two book launches by photographer, Meireles Jr, as well as a spotlight on composer and visual artist, Joel Douek.
Analogs & NFTs is the fourth in a series of exhibitions entitled Side By Side that focus on the gallery’s commitment to showcasing contemporary works in its collection during the acclaimed Biennale. This exhibition has a solo on Korean artist Hijo Nam, a mixed-media artist, who mastered many traditional Korean techniques for handling materials such as lacquer (Ottchil), Hanji, and fabrics, applying them without limiting materials or genres for the her own free expression. The exhibition will also see the book launch of Manguezais and Tenetehar Rites by visionary photographer Meirles Jr, an ambassador of the Maranhão. Meireles was recently invited by the Amazon Biennale Institute to showcase his works in during the Venice Biennale allowing an opportunity for the Maranhão to shine in a space of an illustrious art community.
So too will composer and artist, Joel Douek be included in this exhibition with his works focusing on lush forms and design-oriented abstraction; in his own words, they are “expressions of natural impermanence, often contrasted with the enduring permanence of gold.” Douek has played an important part in the world of cinema, particularly in David Attenborough’s Galapagos 3D, a nature documentary that has generated great acclaim. In this exhibition, the gallery showcases Douek’s talents in visual art, which much like his dedication to music, manifests itself in a harmonious and moving aesthetic.
Analogs & NFTs will feature also the abstract works by Joanne Handler and Melissa McCraken as well as pieces in the figurative tradition such as those by Rene Nascimento, surrealist writer and painter Alfonso Segovia, together with Phyllis Shipley, and iconic Chinese poet Huang Xiang. Digital works, in the forms of NFTs will also be exhibited such as those by Rosie Kim, Hwichan Ko, Abby Perillo, Aro, Daphne Anastassiou, Elisabeth Worstman, and Victoria Citro.
