Maple Jeans, a UK based manufacturer of premium selvedge denim jeans, announced it smashed its initial £30,000 target on the crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter, in just 36 hours.

With a week to go until funding closes on 24th December, Maple Jeans is currently sitting as the highest funded British made fashion retailer in the history of Kickstarter.  You can check out the full Kickstarter video here.

Focused on helping to prop up a British industry, decimated by outsourcing, Maple has seen pledges flood in from around the world with more than half of the backers coming from outside the UK. In contrast to other British premium denim brands, Maple is using a direct to consumer model, to offer their jeans at half the price of high street equivalents.

To date, hundreds of denim and motorcycle enthusiasts have made pledges to Maple Jeans, committing to purchase a number of different jeans or clothing packages.  These range from a pair of selvedge denim jeans and a t-shirt, to two pairs of specialist Kevlar® lined jeans, all made in the UK.

Maple's premium denim range have proven so popular with motorcyclists that Hollywood star, Keanu Reeves, is using them to model his new KRGT-1 motorcycle, which will hit the UK soon.  More information can be found at Arch Motorcycle Company.

Dave Fairbairn, Founder, Maple Motorcycle Jeans, commented:

"I have always wanted to produce our products here in the UK.  When I started out 3 years ago, there simply wasn't an option to do so. Like many other British brands, we had to look elsewhere, finally settling in Los Angeles.  What's exciting about producing here in the UK is not only are we able to help a British industry brought to it's knees by outsourcing, we can help the British economy by creating jobs, and deliver consumers high end products for a fraction of the price of equivalents on the high street. Win, win, win."

About Maple Jeans

Maple Jeans was set up by Dave Fairbairn in 2011.  Dave wanted a pair of protective jeans that were fashion focused, that he could wear on and off his bike for his daily commute into London on his FZS Fazer 600.

So he teamed up with Satish Tailor of London's HST creative, a denim enthusiast and former Puma creative director who lead the team to design the Moto GP race suit.  After two years of development, and over 20,000 miles of personal prototype testing, resulting in numerous functional changes, Fairbairn launched the world's first Kevlar® lined selvedge denim motorcycle jeans from his garage in Oxfordshire.

While currently focusing on premium denim, Dave intends to use the injection of Kickstarter cash to expand his business with other complementary British made products, to take the brand to a larger market - beyond the core motorcyclist clientele.
