Kickstarter Campaign for the World's First Intelligent Heated Leather Jacket

On October 9th, tech firm Teiimo is starting its campaign on crowdsourcing platform Kickstarter for the world's first intelligent leather jacket that heats shoulders, back, neck, and kidneys and serves as Bluetooth hands free calling device, plays music, and offers cell phone charging capability. This will be to finance the final steps in the development of the Teiimo iilation Jacket.  Amongst other rewards, backers can get a limited edition iilation jacket.

"Initially, we want this jacket to show what's possible, what added-value conformable electronics (electronic systems that adapt to the body and surroundings) can offer modern society," says Teiimo CEO Markus Strecker . Teiimo is a pioneer in the conformable electronics sector.

The black is hand crafted jacket, made of the finest German cowhide leather was developed specifically for convertible and classic car drivers and motorcycle riders. The jacket is outfitted with heating elements in the collar and shoulders, as well as the back and kidney area. The ladies' jacket features additional heating in the pockets. With a control unit in the pocket, two separate heating zones can be adjusted independently. A mobile app is also in development. The jacket can be powered either by hooking it up to the car's cigarette lighter outlet, or through its two, integrated, very thin, lightweight, and flexible rechargeable batteries, developed specifically for the jacket. On battery, the jacket will heat for 1.5 to 6 hours, depending on heat settings and external temperature.

In addition to the heating option, the smart jacket serves as a hands free calling device for cell phone users. The is connected to the cell phone via Bluetooth and a microphone and two small speakers are integrated into the collar. Calls can be easily accepted through buttons integrated into the left sleeve. Convenient when you're on the go: the jacket has a USB cell phone charger.

Fully functional prototypes of the have already been made. "At this point it's about producing pre-production samples, testing and to receive the appropriate international certifications," Strecker explained. To do this, the company needs the financial backing of the Kickstarter community. Backers will receive a special limited edition The "Supporter Edition" will come at a discounted price and will be Made in Germany . The Kickstarter campaign will run from October 9th until November 30 .
