FWU Life Insurance: Insolvency and Impact on Italian Policyholders

- The German insurance company FWU AG, the sole shareholder of FWU Life Insurance Lux, has been declared insolvent by the Munich Court on July 19. This development has raised concerns among approximately 100,000 Italian policyholders who have life insurance policies with FWU Life.

The insolvency proceedings against FWU AG have led to the freezing of policies for six months, leaving policyholders uncertain about their recurring payments. Despite the insolvency, the assets of FWU Life Insurance Lux's clients are protected under Luxembourg's regulatory framework.

Adusbef, an Italian consumer protection association, has stepped in to safeguard the savings of Italian policyholders. The association's president, Antonio Tanza, has reassured policyholders that their assets are secure, despite the ongoing insolvency proceedings.

The FWU case follows the recent Eurovita incident, where the Italian insurance company was stabilized through a system-wide operation involving major national players. The FWU insolvency has added to the turbulence in the life insurance sector, affecting around 130,000 Italian contracts.
