Audiofly "6 degrees" - 5 plays

Audiofly have followed their hearts and melodic instincts for Follow My Liebe, for an assured debut that makes a seamless transition from DJ fare to home-listening and back again, with expert ease. Audiofly's album debut has been a long time coming. Not just because of the nine years of production history that Luca Saporito and Anthony Middleton share, but also for the sheer volume and sonic breadth of the 12 anthems, EPs and sought-after remixes that they have amassed throughout their illustrious career Audiofly are true veterans of the scene. Follow My Liebe is their long-awaited longform passion project that draws on all parts of the Audiofly spectrum; from dirty, jacking tech to the sleeker, dubbier, minimal shades of Audiofly X, and deeper still into sound design and ambient atmospheres that they have never before revealed. Follow My Liebe spans electro pop, techno, dub and downtempo, but is held together with a consistent vision of deep indigo tones, twilight atmospheres and early morning stillness.

The lulling reggae vocals of Shaun Parkes enhance the downtempo dub and ambient tones of Kiss and Tell, which is textured by subtle braille percussion and live instrumentation; 6 Degrees likewise shifts with a narcotic groove, its bassline plumbing the depths of the groove, while a soulful female vocal keeps it coolly aloft. Solid shafts of dub reverb and an affecting piano chord distinguish Fela", while arcs of synths that accelerate upwards and plummet downwards, provide a rollercoaster ride of melody. The late-night tech house of Black Cat is fuelled by its bass pulses that chug rhythmically, and the intricate synth play that weaves around them. MyHappyPlace creates a similar atmosphere, with layers and layers of shadows and whispers, guitar, voice and cosmic trails. Sense and Vision, finds its rhythmic grounding in the organic fusion of chattering voices and the peaks and troughs of Rhodes, for an Afrobeat infused slow-house burner. The title track takes its cues from sun-drenched Balearic vibes, with space aplenty for sea breezes, languid sunsets and hummed choruses, while Blue Man and Talk To Me are primed and ready for the dancefloor, rolling heavy and deep, the latter with snaky shimmering percussion, far-away drums, and a rolling, infectious beat that rewrites itself, landing gently in a bed of pealing, humming melodies.
