River Island Autumn/Winter 2013

Colour print clash and bold quirky dressing help form the 'Mash up' trend. Head to toe leopard is layered against fun fur bags and stoles, and knits in colour popping patterns are worn with distressed denim, creating a look which is over the top and not for the faint hearted. This trend is a move on from last year's Blogger look but is bolder and more brazen as leather, vinyl fabrics and decadent patchwork detailing are all thrown into the mix.

The 'Bauhaus' trend takes on more of a clean, streamlined, sporty look. Dresses and tops are updated with rounded, dropped shoulders and found in fresh new scuba fabrics. Tailoring is kept simple with boyfriend blazers and crombie wool coats worn over simple white shirts and black textured trousers or skirts. The colour palette is kept to a minimum with a predominantly black, white and navy base, with accents of bright orange and cobalt blue interspersed within the range.

The 'Modernist' trend offers the River Island customer a sophisticated look for their AW13 wardrobe. It's a formal look, including forties inspired coats with nipped in waists and grown-up tailoring in herringbone and tweed. Jumpsuits are given a work wear makeover and are found in tailored pinstripes and worn under oversized masculine, woollen coats.  A touch of blush pastels and luxurious soft knits are used to lift the tailored greys, clarets, and navy blue hues.

'Supernova' exudes glamour and glitz throughout, creating a maxilmalist approach to dressing. Fabrics feel decadent with high-shine metallic jacquards, flecks of lurex, leather and hints of velvet, ensuring that its perfect for the party season. Quilting is found on leather look fabrics, and jumpers and tops are adorned with embellishment and bejewelling creating a real going out vibe. Longer length skirts and ornate knits are worn under big and boxy, colossal women's coats. The classic tuxedo is toughened up with leather trousers, skyscraper heels and oversized slouchy clutch bags.

River Island introduces the 'Workhouse' trend this season, adding a casual, relaxed vibe to AW. Denim dungarees are worn back with printed knits and vibrant dense wool coats. Fur lined aviator jackets, coloured knitwear and flashes of camouflage are found within this simple but carefully put together look.

Black and white dominates the 'Mono' trend but moving on from last season's graphic stripes, this season it transgresses into a more structured look, with pairing black on black or white on white. Monochromatic graphic prints are found on jackets, jeans and chunky knits. Luxe looking faux furs and leather are used to toughen up this look but still maintaining an overall chic feel.

The 'Teen spirit' trend gives a nod to the 90s grunge era, with cute winter floral dresses worn with heavy-duty coats and chunky biker boots. It's an eclectic story with checks and tartans are mixed in with vintage inspired kimonos and ombré fur coats. Underwear is worn as outerwear with cute lingerie slips and camisoles teamed with oversized coats and loose knits. Tea stained lace is found in amongst this thrift store inspired collection.
