International Design Studio wins the World Architecture News (WAN) Awards 2013

SINGAPORE, Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- International Design Studio (IDS) wins the prestigious WAN Awards 2013 for Residential Category as announced at this year's World Architecture Day in New York City on 7 October 2013. Winner of the 'Future Schemes' category was the Icon Residence, Mont' Kiara in Kuala Lumpur by IDS which was conceived to emulate the romance and fantasies of renowned waterfront resorts and towns in the Mediterranean. The judges found the design arresting from the start with a pleasing ad-hoc feel, very accomplished for the size of the development.

The judging panel Christina Seilern of Studio Seilern Architects noted that IDS managed to make a very large building very small scale. Peter Murray, Chairman of NLA - London's Centre for Built Environment, thought it had 'nice internal spaces.' Ted Cullinan of Cullinan Studio liked the use of gardens throughout the development and all acknowledged that to achieve something as complex as their design is not easy.

IDS, an award winning architectural firm based in Singapore, is helmed by Dr Timothy Seow, Phing Seow, Ho Lih Liang and Henry Lagansua. The firm attempts to challenge the conventional design solution and explore new options that test the limits of the creative diversity of Mont' Kiara which provides green living environment that engages Mont' Kiara and their internal green areas both physically and visually.

A three dimensionally changing unit profiles, bridges linking the internal and outdoor space creating an exciting play of vertical and horizontal interface of terraces, gardens, deck and sky gardens connecting at high levels, which provides both physical and visual link to the natural green, thereby introducing a soft relief against the backdrop of high-level/high-density living. The sky gardens at the lift lobbies also provide green relief at intermediate levels along the vertical journey.

Icon Residence, Mont' Kiara also bagged The International Property Awards (2012-2013) - Best High-Rise Architecture for Asia Pacific and Malaysia.
