Gherardini's HQ Becomes a Work of Art

To celebrate the 130th anniversary of Italy's oldest leather-goods manufacturer, founded in 1885, nine kilometres of Gherardini's renowned Softy fabric will give a new look to the façade of the company's main premises, in Scandicci. The Gherardini-Braccialini production plant will be clothed in a work of art curated by Marco Fallani. The work is in the style of Christo, who uses fabric for his installations to create land art transforming and wrapping whole buildings. The fabric in question is Softy, exclusive to Gherardini's bags. Distinguished by an all-over logo print, this light, waterproof fabric was the fruit of a study advocated by Pierluigi Gherardini himself in the early Seventies, a study which continued over the years to achieve the new generation's characteristics of opacity and abrasion resistance. The work by Marco Fallani will change the atmosphere and effect of a large-scale space and through not least its colours will create chromatic illusion and perspective.        ...
